Bright lights, big crowds, and larger than life floats are the perfect formula for downtown holiday success.

There are hot seats along Nicollet Mall, but you have to pay extra to be in the cozy, tented area.

Yet this evening, visitors like Lyz and David Lenz are getting a bit nostalgic.

"My husband and I came here over ten years ago when we were dating," Lyz Lenz said. "Makes me a little bit sad that my kids won't be able to have the same parade we had."

Leah Wong with the Minneapolis Downtown Council says nothing is wrong with the Holidazzle, but after 22 years, it's simply time for a change.

"This year we wanted an opportunity to say all options are on the table, and we want to look at possibly bringing in a new holiday experience," Leah Wong said.

This holiday tradition usually begins the day after Thanksgiving and run until a few days before Christmas. Since 1992, Downtown Minneapolis has counted on events to bring in shoppers from around the metro to compete with the suburban shopping mall experience.

"Without fail, business on the nights of the parade is up from any other Thursday, Friday, or Saturday," said Kris Mertz, General Manager of Vincents.

While the parade has left visitors with many memorable moments including marriage proposals, one of the most unforgettable happened in 1998 after a police van accidentally drove into a crowd. Two people were killed, and nine others injured.

Yet with the crowds expected to be in the hundreds of thousands this year, and Santa and his elves once again bringing holiday cheer, there's an expectation this final season may be the most memorable.

The Holidazzle Parade runs every Friday and Saturday from Nov. 29 through Dec. 21.
