Black Friday In The Delaware Valley

Posted: Updated:

It is Black Friday! The day after Thanksgiving, called Black Friday, is typically the biggest shopping day of the year. For a decade, it had been considered the official start of the holiday buying season. This year, there were questions about how many shoppers would come out, after news that many retailers were opening on Thanksgiving.

Well, the store lines were still packed, and FOX 29's Steve Keeley was there to talk to some early morning shoppers today to find out why they decided to forego sleep to take care of their shopping list.

The Targets around the country were open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Lines were at least 1,000 people at the Targets around the country. At the target in Cherry Hill, NJ, Keeley tells Good Day that everyone is trying to get their hands on the Mike Jerrick 2-in-1 sweater. Click here to see the story from yesterday that inspired it all. To keep their bodies going during the shopping spree, many shoppers are taking advantage of Target's food court, eating on Pizza in the morning hours.

Shoppers carried their shopping lists and bought electronics, clothes and anything else that was on sale. One shopper even went to a Hallmark store and bought stuffed snow balls so that her kids can have snow ball fights in the house. Some of these shoppers have been awake since 6 p.m. last night to catch the early Thanksgiving sales. Others set boundaries and set their alarms for early this morning, refusing to shop on Black Friday until Friday.

For some, it was a family affair, an adrenaline pumping few hours for some fun and family bonding. For others, it was all about themselves, shopping and treating themselves to some good deals. And yet for others, it was all about shopping to get the gifts to give for the holiday season.

While most of the shopping was controlled chaos, the Walmart at Marlton was a bit scary, according to some of the shoppers that Steve Keeley interviewed. It seems that the deals were just too good for shoppers to be civil. One woman says she almost got tazered.

Watch all the interviews by clicking on the videos above. Some people are calling this year Brown Friday or Grey Friday because of the extended shopping hours compared to all the other years. In any case, share your story with FOX 29 through our Facebook.

Stay safe, and remember to get some sleep after the shopping!

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
