1 killed, 1 wounded in East Garfield Park shooting

A Cicero man was killed and another man was wounded in a shootout early Monday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Authorities believe both men were shot during an exchange of gunfire about 12:15 a.m. in the 2900 block of West Adams Street, police said.

LaChris Hendricks, 32, was found in the street at the intersection of South Sacramento Boulevard and West Adams Street with gunshot wounds to the chest, arm and hand, authorities said.

Hendricks, of the 1200 block of 48th Court in Cicero, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 3:23 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

A 30-year-old man also hurt in the shooting suffered gunshot wounds to the backside and right leg, police said. He was found inside a vehicle in the 2900 block of West Jackson Boulevard about 12:15 a.m. and driven by an acquaintance to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition has "stabilized," police said.

A weapon was recovered after the shooting in the 2900 block of West Adams Street, police said.

Area North detectives are investigating, but no charges have been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.
