Houston School Administrator Makes Controversial Remark
Several parents are upset at a top school administrator for what she called students. She apparently told students that they dress like "hoes".
The school support officer made the statement in a school assembly at a Houston high school.
Some say the message was a necessary dose of tough love, but others say it was insensitive and out of line.
"That may be all they have to wear. For you to say something like that is inconsiderate," said parent Cynthia King. "That was out of line and she should be disciplined for that."
"I think it was appropriate that the female administrator bring it to their attention," said Mary Owens.
The school district confirms the language was used by the administrator to promote better compliance with the dress code.
In a statement, they agreed that the administrator's words were inappropriate:
Although the administrator had good intentions and was trying to instill pride and purpose in the students, her approach and tone were perhaps inappropriate and not approved by the district. The district apologizes to all Yates students who were offended and wants to assure families and community members this will not happen again.
