Temperatures will top at 40 degrees today and will get down to freezing tonight.

Drivers are advised to use caution on the roads.

Public Works will begin sanding and salting roads as early this afternoon.  Please take caution on bridges and overpasses as they may freeze faster.

The following was released by The National Weather Service:

LIGHT WINTRY PRECIPITATION EXPECTED TODAY AND TOMORROW...

A LATE FALL STORM IN THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY MAY BRING A SEVERAL OF ROUNDS OF LIGHT WINTRY PRECIPITATION TO THE MIDSOUTH THIS MORNING... TONIGHT AND AGAIN TOMORROW NIGHT. TEMPERATURES WILL WARM ENOUGH DURING THE DAYTIME TO TRANSFORM ALL PRECIPITATION TO RAIN... BUT DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS AND MORNING HOURS... LIGHT SLEET OR SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE. MINIMAL ACCUMULATIONS OF SLEET AND SNOW ARE POSSIBLE... MAINLY ON ELEVATED SURFACES. SOME FREEZING RAIN CANNOT BE TOTALLY RULED OUT BUT DOS NOT LOOK LIKELY. ANY ACCUMULATING WINTER PRECIPITATION WILL MELT QUICKLY AS THE TRANSITION TO RAIN OCCURS THIS MORNING AND AGAIN TOMORROW MORNING.

Release from Director of Public Works, Dwan Gilliom:

We are preparing a total of 11 sand/salt trucks to activate later this afternoon or evening to dispense this sand/salt mix if and when the bridges and overpasses start to freeze over as temperatures begin to drop throughout the afternoon and evening. Salt Brine will not be dispensed as we are receiving light rain in advance of any frozen precipitation, which will essentially wash the brine solution away. Crews will either be held over this afternoon or will be on standby this evening, which will be dictated by the temperature and how soon we start receiving icy conditions.
