Police seek vehicle after fatal hit and run on 8 Mile near I-75

Hazel Park police are looking for a vehicle they say hit and killed a pedestrian at the corner of Eight Mile Road and I-75.

58-year-old Harry Wilhelm was walking home when he was hit after a vehicle went through a red light Wednesday night. Wilhelm was "catapulted" into the air by the vehicle and when he landed on the ground he was run over again by the same vehicle, police say.

Police believe the vehicle is a truck, and are looking for a dark-colored, 1994-1996 four-door GMC Sierra, 1500 or 3500 series. It should have visible front-end, passenger-side damage. If you know anything contact Hazel Park Police.

Eight Mile Road was closed at that intersection for a period of time Wednesday night following the accident.
