PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

It's a guilty verdict for a man accused of shooting an unarmed man outside of a Taco Bell in Phoenix last year.

A jury convicted Cordell Jude on one count of reckless manslaughter.

Jude shot and killed the victim, Daniel Adkins and the case became known as the "reverse Trayvon Martin case" -- an African American man shooting a victim who was Hispanic, claiming it was self defense under the "stand your ground" law.

According to police, Jude told them Adkins was armed with a metal pipe and claimed self defense.

Jude was pulling out of the drive thru when Adkins walked out in front of his car.  Adkins yelled at Jude for almost running him and his dog over.  Defense attorneys say Adkins hit the car and Jude was forced to defend himself and his pregnant girlfriend, but prosecutors say Jude got angry, pulled out his loaded gun and shot and killed an unarmed man.

But it turned out Adkins did not have a metal pipe -- only a dog leash.

Prosecutors charged Jude with 2nd degree murder, but jurors convicted him on the lesser charge of reckless manslaughter.

The victim's father reacted after the verdict was reached.

"He was taken away before I could get to talk to him.. I just want to tell him, I know you killed my son, but I don't hate you.  I hate your actions, but I don't hate you," said Daniel Adkins, Sr.
