DOWNTOWN MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

St. Louis Cardinals General Manager John Mozeliak and chairman Bill DeWitt Jr., who were in Memphis Tuesday, said the defending National League champs will play the Redbirds in an exhibition game March 28.

The invite-only rally was held by Memphis Mayor A C Wharton and area business leaders in hopes of striking up some support for the sale of the Redbirds and AutoZone Park.

They are trying to get the community excited for a deal that includes the parent club St. Louis Cardinals buying the Redbirds and the city buying the ballpark.

The city would issue bonds to pay for the stadium and the Cardinals would pay the city to lease it.
