Zimmerman Out On Bail; Will Not Be Allowed To Possess Weapons

Posted: Updated:

The bail hearing for George Zimmerman just took place. A judge has set bond for Zimmerman at $9,000 in the domestic assault case. Zimmerman will not be allowed to contact ex-girlfriend Samantha Scheibe, and will also not be allowed to possess ammunition or weapons during his bail. His next court appearance is set to January 7th.

According to the prosecution, the victim, Scheibe, is in fear for her safety. Prior to the latest incident, the prosecution says that there was another incident a-week-and-a-half ago involving violence in the form of choking. Scheibe didn't report it to police, prosecution says. Prosecution also said that Scheibe and Zimmerman have had talks about separating prior to the incidents in question.

The judge also ordered that Zimmerman cannot go back to his ex-girlfriend's place or contact her in any means. Furthermore, a third party will go to her place and pick up any belongings of his. Zimmerman's defense had argued for a one-time visit, escorted by police, for Zimmerman to get his belongings, but the judge took the prosecution's side in the ruling.

The incident in question happened yesterday. Deputies say that George Zimmerman's girlfriend accused him of pointing a shotgun at her during an argument at the home they shared in Florida.

Chief Deputy Dennis Lemma said that Zimmerman was charged with aggravated assault, battery and criminal mischief after the dispute.

Lemma says no one was hurt, and no one else was at the home when deputies arrived.

Deputies say Zimmerman had barricaded himself inside by wedging furniture against the door before officers arrived. His girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, was outside the home and gave deputies a key to get inside.

Lemma says once deputies got inside, Zimmerman did not resist and was not armed.
