DSU Shuts Down Band Over Allegations Of Hazing

Posted: Updated:
DOVER, Del. -

Delaware State University has shut down its entire band for the remainder of the semester, and it all stems from allegations of hazing.

Those allegations seemed to come as a surprise to students on campus.

Delaware State University's 150-member marching band can be seen strutting its stuff in YouTube video from homecoming, but it has been silenced for the rest of the season.

Band members who spoke with FOX 29 News anonymously were vehement in their denials of any wrongdoing.

Instead, they expressed hurt, anger and frustration that they will have to sit out the final home football game next week.

University spokesperson Carlos Holmes says they received a few reports of alleged hazing incidents a little more than a week ago.

Since then, the university and campus police have launched a full blown investigation, though they would not comment on the exact claims.

Whether it's minor hazing or some of the more serious forms of hazing that can cause serious injury, it's not permitted on this campus.

Holmes says he cannot recall any other recent hazing allegations. He made it clear that kind of behavior will not be tolerated, even if it changes the tune of the next home game.

FOX 29's Jennifer Joyce had more reaction from DSU in this video report.
