SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

Federal authorities say two tribal police officers have been wounded in an apparent shootout with a suspect in Scottsdale near Camelback Road and Country Club.

Authorities say the shooting took place Friday afternoon on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community not far from Salt River Elementary School.

"They was running around by the school with a gun and the police officer was chasing them," said Aaron, a neighbor.

Tense moments for this neighborhood as police looked for the alleged gunman.

"Next thing you know, they are searching all houses and five minutes later, you hear one gun shots.. then like four rounds going off from all rifles that they had," said Johnny.

Rounds of gunfire on the street -- three people shot -- two tribal officers and the suspect.

"I was parked on the corner.. Camelback and Center and I hear all the shooting.. about 45 shots.. it went crazy.. then everything got silent," said Aaron.

Relatives of the suspect arrived at the scene, unsure if he was alive.

"Someone called me and told me it was a relative of mine.. they said he was dead."

Officials with the FBI's Phoenix office confirmed all three suffered non-life threatening wounds and were transported to a Scottsdale-area area hospital.

Their names are not being released at this time.

Still, neighbors are rattled to know the shootout could have taken a deadly turn.

"There was so many.. you can feel the ground rumbling from all the shooting," said Aaron.

The FBI will be handling this investigation and as we learn more about what led up to this shooting, we'll bring it to you.
