Holiday Party Strategies with MWLC

Thanksgiving is almost here and all those holiday parties won't be far behind. That often mean high calorie traps, but you don't have to fall victim. The experts from Medical Weight Loss Clinic have some helpful tips and hints to help you avoid overeating.

 

 Plan ahead!
  -Anticipate what might be served at the gathering, and create a strategy for dealing with any particular temptations
  -Try to always eat a healthy snack before you leave for a party, so you don't arrive hungry
 Avoid calorie traps!
  -Gravies, sauces and dressings
  -Anything fried
  -Dessert (it's far easier to have none than trying to sample "just a little"…which always turns into a lot!)
 Try these helpful tricks:
  -Eat nothing with your fingers
 -If dinner is served buffet-style, use only one plate (preferably a small one) and fill it with raw vegetables, salad, fruit and lean protein choices
  -Wear well-fitted (versus loose) clothing to holiday parties…this can be a simple way to avoid over-eating
 -Focus on friends and family at the gathering, not the food. Spend time talking with every guest that you know at the party, which will leave little or no time to visit the snacks
  -Drink plenty of water

Did you know? By avoiding or modifying a few popular holiday foods, you can save yourself a lot of unwanted calories!
 Stuffing and gravy - up to 700 calories
 Pecan pie - up to 600 calories
 Dinner roll with butter - up to 350 calories
  ½ of pumpkin pie slice minus whipped cream - up to 300 calories (versus a full slice with topping)
*The calorie savings from avoiding/modifying just these four foods will save you up to 1,950 calories (a day's worth of calories based on the Surgeon General's Nutritional Guidelines)
