2 Arizona corrections officers killed in motorcycle crash
TOLLESON, Ariz. -
Authorities say two Arizona Department of Corrections officers are dead after a motorcycle accident in the area of 99th Avenue and Buckeye Road.
Maricopa County Sheriff's officials identified the victims as 35-year-old John Ollis and 30-year-old Skye Orozca. They say both worked at the Lewis state prison complex in Buckeye.
Sheriff's officials say Ollis was driving a motorcycle with Orozca as a passenger Wednesday night.
The motorcycle crashed into a tractor-trailer that was making a turn onto Buckeye Road from a private drive.
MCSO's Lt. Brandon Jones stated, "Preliminary info is that a Semi truck
was turning left into a distribution site when a motorcycle (occupied 2)
clipped a part of the trailer, causing the motorcycle to loose control,
eject the riders, and land in a ditch."
Authorities say the two were then struck by three passing vehicles and their bodies were dragged for several hundred feet.
Officials say Ollis was wearing a helmet, but Orozca wasn't.
Sheriff's officials say it's too early to determine if any charges will be filed or citations issued in the fatal accident.
