Braves move to Cobb County could face pushback

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

Some say the Atlanta Braves' proposed move to Cobb County may not yet be a done deal.

The team announced on Monday their plan to build a brand new facility in Cobb County in time for the 2017 season.

The $672 million project would be built at the intersection of Interstates 75 and 285. The site would be a combination of the new ballpark and mixed-use development and parking areas, team officials said.

FOX 5 political analyst and InsiderAdvantage CEO Matt Towery said there could be pushback from citizens in Cobb County about the cost and traffic.

"They are going to say, first of all ‘How much are we paying?' Because they don't want to pay a dime towards anything in this county unless it goes to education or improving their lifestyle," Towery said.  "Secondly they will say, ‘What about the traffic?' They sit in massive amounts of traffic right now with that 75, 285 corridor. That creates a real problem and if they begin to think about it, it may not raise enough of a concern for to prevent it being passed and the Braves getting their deal but the political impact in 2014 could be substantial. "

Towery said he believes it could be political suicide for politicians who back the project. He said that he'll conduct a poll to gauge Cobb County voters' views on the move.

Cobb County Commission Chairman Tim Lee said major transportation improvements are in the works for the area.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners is expected to vote on the proposal sometime after Thanksgiving.
