Douglas Co. man indicted in hammer slaying of girlfriend

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A metro Atlanta man has been indicted in the slaying of his girlfriend, who authorities say died from being beaten a hammer.

According to the Douglas County District Attorney's Office website, the grand jury indicted 46-year-old Gary Lee Malone on murder charges Friday. It states Malone is accused of striking the woman repeatedly in the head with a hammer when she was killed at their Lithia Springs apartment Nov. 2.

It was Malone who called police to the apartment where they found 36-year-old Katrina West dead. Her body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for an autopsy.

Malone was arrested at the scene and remains jailed without bond in Douglas County. It was not known Saturday if he had an attorney.
