Marriage equality debate: African-American clergy rallies against gay marriage

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Another rally against gay marriage was held Monday, led by a group of black religious leaders who are trying to send a message to Springfield.

Gay marriage is already legal in 14 states, the District of Columbia, and some parts of New Mexico. It's possible a law legalizing same-sex marriage will soon be brought up again in the Illinois House.

Nationwide polls show that 53 percent of Americans support gay marriage and polls taken in Illinois over the past year have found support levels ranging from 45 to 52 percent.

Bishop Lance Davis of New Zion Christian Church in Dolton -- who is opposed to gay marriage -- and Reverend Richard Tolliver of St. Edmund's Episcopal Church in Chicago -- who is a supporter -- debate both sides.
