MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Sunday was the day Mid-South flyers have been waiting for.

For years.

Dallas-based low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines officially started nonstop service in and out of Memphis to Houston (Hobby), Chicago (Midway), Orlando, Tampa, and Baltimore-Washington).

It's been a long awaited landing and for travelers it means plane tickets, in some cases for less than $100 roundtrip.

"This is the best thing that's ever happened to Memphis!," said Jeanie Thomas.

Southwest will offer six direct nonstop flights. The first Southwest aircraft landed Sunday morning from Chicago Midway.

"The key thing here to remember is that those five cities will connect you to 90 others!"

But along with the flights there's a King-sized welcome for Southwest in Elvis' hometown!

Dean Z, the 2013 Ultimate Elvis tribute artist winner, was on hand Monday for the airline's first Monday of service. Dean performed for FOX13's Good Morning Memphis and for those flying Southwest on this big day.

Inside the 737-700 aircraft, there is big news in the form of WiFi connectivity.

"What that means is you can get your WiFi on your phone. But not just WiFi, you can watch movies and watch free TV courtesy of DISH."

One of the main reasons people are excited is cheaper more and competitive flights. For some, they just call that "LUV."

"I am happy, I'm very happy, cause my fiance is here," Thomas said. "So it makes a big difference being to come direct from Houston to Memphis now."

So while the red carpet continues to roll out for Southwest, it looks like this match made in Memphis is just what The King ordered, and possibly just the beginning.

While for customers, one phrase sums things up.

"I'm tired of taking other flights through other airlines."
