Offensive Halloween Costume Causes Social Media Uproar
A photo on Twitter has been creating uproar. For Halloween, a woman dressed as a Boston Marathon victim!
22-year-old Alicia Ann Lynch posted a picture of herself on her Twitter account, and the account has since been suspended.
After she posted the photo, a firestorm of comments followed, accusing her of being insensitive.
For example, Sydney Corcoran tweeted back, "You should be ashamed, my mother lost both her legs and I almost died in the marathon. You need a filter.
Molly Walsh agreed, "As someone who experienced it first hand, I cant see how a mentally stable person can think that's ok."
Ryan leech wrote, "what'd you go as last year, a cancer victim?"
The comments got worse when someone found a picture of her driver's license and spread her personal information all over the Internet.
According to the website Buzzfeed, lynch and her family have been receiving death threats.
For example, Josh Duhamel wrote on Twitter, "…have we killed her yet? If we haven't, then what are we waiting for?"
Another tweet, by Keith Gilchrist, wrote, "...Make sure she fries, ignorant clam."
Alicia has also lost her job, according to her twitter.
Some twitter users also commented on the nasty comments Alicia received in response to her costume. Mark Parker wrote, "Yes @SomeSKANKinMI's costume was offense. But @twitter needs to shutdown users who make death threats..."
Adam Hlavac agreed, "What's worse about @someskankinmi situation is the fact that we, as a human race, immediately turn to cyber-bullying & death threats."
Hannah Buhnanz also forgave Alicia, "As someone who ran the marathon, I know that violent angry responses are exactly what fueled the bombings to begin with."
Alicia has since told Buzzfeed that her whole family has been threatened, and she's received a variety of threats including threats of rape and death.
