Injured owl rescued by police at Waffle House

Posted: Updated:
DORAVILLA, Ga. -

A lot of night owls hang out at Waffle House, but police had to come take one away this week.

A Strix varia, more commonly known as a Barred Owl, was found at the Waffle House on Tilly Mill Road and Peachtree Industrial Blvd on Saturday just after 3 p.m. The owl, who is identified by Doraville police as being "Steve," was injured.

Officers were able to safely capture the stray bird of prey and took him to the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell. Workers there say they will be able to rehabilitate "Steve" before releasing him back into the wild.

Anyone who wants to help "Steve" in his recovery can donate to the Chattahoochee Nature Center at chattnaturecenter.org.
