CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A Lake Forest woman received a heart-wrenching phone call from her son in an ambulance Friday, breaking the news to her that he was one of the LAX shooting victims.

"I received a phone call from my son saying that he was at LAX and had been shot and was in transport to the hospital," she explains. "And then I spoke with an officer, a police officer, who informed me that my son had been shot in the leg."

Judy, who asked us not to use her name, could not get on a flight soon enough after hearing from her son Brian.

"He was shaken, and he just wanted to assure me that he would be okay," she continues. "But I really don't know much more than that."

29-year-old Brian, who's a graduate of Lake Forest High School, was at LAX airport waiting to catch a flight home, according to his mother, when the gunman, identified as Paul Ciancia, opened fire with an assault rifle. A TSA agent was killed and five other people besides Brian were injured.

Another of Judy's sons came to the airport to see her off. She held back tears as she prepared to go board her flight.

"It's a shock, it's a shock, and it's hard to be so far away," Judy says. "I just wish I was there now, and again my heart goes out to anybody else, anybody else that was involved."

Brian, who is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, works for a school in California teaching theater.

"He was not able to give me any more information," she told FOX 21. "He was in an ambulance being transported and he was not able to give me a lot of detail, his voice sounded very shaky and he just handed the phone to the police officer but he told me he was okay."

She did not know his flight plans.
