DECATUR, Ga. -

Halloween turned tragic in one DeKalb County neighborhood Thursday.  Police said a 5-year-old child was struck and killed while trick-or-treating in Decatur.

Authorities said the little girl, who has been identified as Autumn Mack, was struck around 7 p.m. in the Chapel Hill subdivision on Pepperdine Court, located south of Flat Shoals Park. Police say Autumn was crossing the street while trick-or-treating and was struck by a minivan.

Sandra Young told FOX 5 that her sister was turning out onto the street when the girl, who was coming to Young's house to trick-or-treat, ran out in front of a parked SUV and into the path of her moving minivan.

Autumn was transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston where she died, according to DeKalb County police.

Police say neither speed nor alcohol appears to be factors in the crash, and the woman who was driving the car is not expected to face charges.  They say it was simply a tragic accident.

Autumn was a kindergartner at Chapel Hill Elementary School.  Grief counselors were on hand on Friday helping students and staff members deal with her loss.

"I never ever thought in a million years my baby would be gone," said Yolanda Jones, Autumn's mother.

A fund has been established to help pay the funeral expenses. Donations can be made to the "Autumn Saniya Mack Memorial Fund" at any Wells Fargo location.
