PHOENIX -

SkyFOX captured a wild police chase that lasted for more than an hour Wednesday afternoon. It finally ended when the driver blew through a red light and crashed into a car at 7th Avenue and Maryland.

It was the second accident caused by the driver, who turned out to be a woman!

Update: The driver has been identified as 26-year-old Kendra Leigh McMillion, along with her passenger, Dustin James Hopkins.

This all started near 56th Street and Greenway when police got a call about a couple trying to break into homes.

We were actually on the road following the chase as it happened.

The driver was changing directions constantly, but didn't start speeding up until getting onto 7th Avenue.

McMillion left the scene on a stretcher after she ran the red light at 7th Avenue and Maryland. She plowed into a white Lexus, then smashed into a tree.

Both McMillion and Hopkins tried to run away, but didn't get very far.

"I saw them jump her... this huge police guy jumped on her and tackled her," said witness Angel Kronz.

Angel Kronz was behind a white car waiting to cross 7th Avenue. She saw everything.

"The black car was coming this way and ran a red light, and at 50 or 60 miles an hour, hit that white car that was already in the intersection."

The two people in the white car are ok. One was taken to the hospital just as a precaution.

Police tell us the black SUV was stolen and Hopkins was waving a gun at officers during the chase.

That's part of the reason why police didn't move in sooner – instead, they followed with their helicopter for nearly an hour.

"The opposite outcome of this could have been a shooting with somebody," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump. "I guess we will measure success at a different rate here. We have minor injuries, and of course we don't want that, but we have to consider the outcome. Could have been much worse in this particular case because of who they were dealing with and what they were doing."

This wasn't the first crash. Minutes earlier, McMillion rear-ended another car near 16th Street and Camelback. That driver wasn't hurt.

In addition to the suspect's car being stolen, police tell us they also found a stolen gun in the car.

The department will be reviewing this chase as they typically do with all chases like this.

McMillion faces charges of leaving an accident with an injury, aggravated assault, theft, aggravated DUI, unlawful flight from law enforcement, endangerment, resisting arrest, shoplifting, failure to appear, DUI, violation of promise to appear and leaving an accident with damage.

Hopkins is in custody for allegedly trafficking stolen property, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, theft, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon by a prohibited person and possession/use of a dangerous drug and marijuana.
