OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (FOX13) -

In 2011 the city of Olive Branch was called the fastest growing city in the country, with a booming population.

Olive Branch is still on the move with at least nine new businesses opening or scheduled to open soon. Many are asking just what is it about Olive Branch that has businesses and restaurants moving in?

For one thing, the city's getting busy. Two decades ago if you lived in "The O.B.," the city had a Kroger grocery store, a Big Star, and a Sonic. Nearing the end of 2013, Olive Branch is on another boom, with new businesses opening up all over town.

Alderman David Wallace has lived in the O.B. for all of his life and likes what he sees.

"A lot of folks get worried about growth," Wallace said. "You can be scared of it, or embrace it, and try to guide it. A town that doesn't grow begins to die. You have to have growth."

Olive Branch has that business growth on the east side of town.

"The two latest businesses that have opened up are Helen of Troy and TELErhythmic," Alderman Wallace said. "Helen of Troy opened up one of the largest warehouses in the Mid-South, a million square feet, and TELERythmic is a medical device company." (TELErhythmic does not plan to open according according to owner Terry Calaway)

Two new businesses, including a coffee shop and a gift shop. opened up in the past week in old town Olive Branch. On the west side of town, there is construction along a long stretch of Goodman Road to the north.

"The funnest thing will be a movie theater," Alderman Wallace added. "There used to be one here back when my dad was a kid. There hasn't been one here for many years, but we are going to have it. It's supposed to be a state-of-the-art movie theatre. Malco is going to open just down from Kroger and we've got Corky's, which is going to be out from there. Jason's Deli will be opening up soon."

Wallace said an Aldi grocery store is also scheduled to open in Olive Branch as well with a number of new businesses that can't be publicly announced yet. The alderman thinks the city at this point may need to look to improve or add to its park system to keep the business coming.

"I wouldn't mind if we had a skateboard park," he said. "Quality of life is one of the draws to O.B. and that is what brings the businesses here."
