PRESCOTT, Ariz. -

Yavapai County authorities say a traffic stop in northern Arizona has resulted in the seizure of more than a ton of marijuana.

The county Sheriff's Office says the seizure was made Thursday after deputies stopped a tractor-trailer rig traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 between Seligman and Ash Fork.

According to court documents, while talking to the truck's driver, 44-year-old Peng Law of Sunnyvale, California and passenger, Bing Huang, 45, from San Jose, California, a deputy noticed numerous signs of deception and both appeared much more nervous than the innocent motoring public.  Law and Huang were unable to answer questions about their destination and a review of the documents the driver provided led to additional suspicions of illegal drug trafficking.

Authorities say based on the deputy's training and experience, he suspected Law and Huang were transporting contraband.  At that point, he asked for and received consent from them to search the tractor and trailer.

After opening the trailer, deputies found marijuana packed in vacuum-sealed plastic bags in cardboard boxes.  The total weight of the load was 2,350 pounds with an estimated value of $8,225,000.

According to the Sheriff's Office, it's believed the marijuana was headed to the East Coast.

The Sheriff's Office says the Law and Huang were arrested and booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on charges including transportation of marijuana for sales and possession of marijuana for sales. Both remain in-custody, each on a bond of $15 million.

The truck and trailer were seized along with the marijuana.
