4 young boys arrested for allegedly torturing kitten to death

Warning: Graphic video

Police say someone reported an act of animal cruelty on Oct. 15 after six boys were caught on surveillance video at a trailer park near Arizona Avenue and Loop 202.

The video, from Oct. 14, shows six young boys on playground equipment playing with a white kitten and a small dog. The boys' ages range from 7 to 12.

At first the boys seem to just be playing with the animals, but then the boys allegedly pushed the dog down a slide and into the kitten.

Police say the boys can be seen hitting the kitten with a soccer ball, kicking it at the end of the slide repeatedly and eventually they threw it to the ground.

In the video, it looks as if the kitten is stunned or dead. The boys are then seen throwing the limp, lifeless kitten over a pool fence and into a pool.

Maintenance workers later found the cat dead in the pool.

Officers estimate the kitten is under 2-months-old. The kitten was allegedly found under one of the boys' trailers and sold to another for $3.

The investigation took a couple of weeks to complete because the suspects are children.

Four of the boys were arrested on Sunday morning and are being booked on a felony charge of animal cruelty.

Police say the 7-year-old boy is too young to face charges and the sixth boy was an observer and didn't participate in the abuse.

The four being charged will be taken to the juvenile detention facility in Mesa and their court dates will be pending.

No names will be released because the suspects are minors.
