PEORIA, Ariz. -

Make-A-Wish teamed up with a local car club to make a wish come true for a valley teen.

15-year-old Zane Childress loves his old Chevy truck.

"This truck means a lot. I've had it since I was in third grade," said Childress.

He's been working on it for the past few years, in between trips to the hospital and doctors visits.

"I'm a total grease monkey, motorhead, you name it," said Childress.

Since he was born, he's been dealing with neurofibromatosis, an incurable disorder that causes non-cancerous tumors to grow inside and outside his body.

He never thought he'd get his truck done until Make-A-Wish stepped in to grant his dream: to restore his pride and joy.

"Make-a-wish has a restriction that we're not allowed to renovate any kind of automotive equipment unless it's running and Zane's truck wasn't running," said Hollie Costello, with Make-A-Wish Arizona.

That's why Make-A-Wish teamed up with Automotive Restoration Club of Sun City, who got the truck into working order.

Childress had no idea the truck was up and running until Saturday morning.

Now is the fun part: he will get customize the truck any way he wants as part of his wish.

"I'll probably go with exterior, rims tires, paint, stereo, all that good stuff," said Childress.
"It's going to be kind of scary driving, you know, baby it, ya know."

Zane is excited to drive off in his new truck when it's completely done in a few months.

"I can't express in words, there's really nothing to say for thank you, absolutely nothing I can say to show my gratitude," said Childress.

Childress will turn 16 in January, just in time for his truck to be completely restored and redone to his specifications.
