PHOENIX -

These two little dogs are full of energy and can't stop moving, even though they aren't able to use their front legs properly. They're not letting that get in the way of having fun.

But a dog rescue group says if they don't get that unique walk fixed, it may start creating other issues for them soon.

They don't need surgery. These dogs weren't born with a defect, they just for some reason never learned how to properly use their front legs.

And the Arizona Small Dog Rescue says that can be treated with some physical therapy and the use of leg braces.

Walking isn't something you have to teach a 5-month-old puppy, but for these two -- they're in need some walking lessons.

"These guys literally walk somewhere between elbows and wrists and they flop around."

It's unknown why Salt and Pepper started walking this way, but since it was never addressed they just figured out a way to get around.

"The tendons and ligaments that make your joints flex and extend are way overstressed because they were down as puppies and they just learned to scoot around."

"Doesn't slow them down at all, but long term it's not going to work for them, that's the problem. Their back can't take it, they need their front legs."

The Arizona Small Dog Rescue took them in to provide them physical therapy -- part of which includes placing braces on Salt and Pepper's front legs.

"You're talking about custom made stuff, I know that people have paid $1,500 for a brace for one leg, and we need 4 of them," says Dr. Katie Andre, Bethany Animal Hospital.

"They're sweet and cuddly and they don't know they're broken," says Cheryl Price, who has been fostering Salt and Pepper for a while now.

"They crawl, kind of army style and it's going to cause a lot of problems for them."

She hopes once the rescue raises enough money for the braces, they could find a good home for the two.

"I'm absolutely in love with them but it wouldn't break my heart to keep them. I think they would be happier in a home with kids and together, I would hope they stay together. They sleep together, play together and I think they would be lost without each other."
