Detroit auto shop sheep to live at animal sanctuary

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

A sheep that made a surprise visit to a Detroit auto collision shop is getting a new home at a Michigan animal sanctuary, Sasha Farms in Manchester, Mich.

The animal was weaving in and out of traffic near Eight Mile and Van Dyke roads Tuesday afternoon, before darting through an open door at Nortown Collision & Glass Co. The animal ran wild around the shop for about 20 minutes before workers corralled her. The sheep, which is rumored to have been on the way to slaughter, was not harmed.

The sheep was turned over to Detroit's animal control unit and soon after that PETA got involved. The animal rights organization sent a letter urging Detroit Police Chief James Craig to send the sheep to an animal sanctuary.

The letter reads:
"We are hearing from many supporters and citizens whose hearts are going out to this sensitive animal and don't want to see her sent to slaughter after she apparently escaped from whoever was likely planning to kill her. This sheep is an individual who got scared and doesn't want to die, any more than any of us do"

For this sheep, the grass does prove to be greener on the other side.
