Hackers Blackmail Teen

Posted: Updated:

We've heard of lots of different online scams, for example, hackers posing as your bank to get your pin number. However, hackers took it to a different level for one teen.

17-year-old Hector Hernandez says that they hacked right into his computer and somehow turned on the webcam.

Hector says that he had no idea until the hackers contacted him through Facebook. They threatened to leak an embarrassing video of him unless he sent them money.

Hector says that he got desperate and stole expensive jewelry from his parents to pay the blackmailers. He then sent the money to the Philippines, but Hernandez says that the threats haven't stopped.

"I was scared I didn't know what to do," Hernandez said. "I didn't want my parents to find out what I did and I feel terrible about it."

Hernandez's mother was not very happy with what happened.

"He is stealing from his own family," she said. "Very angry, I'm disappointed with him."

According to Hernandez, the whole blackmail cost him 100 grand. Hector's mother says that she is trying to get her jewelry back. You have to be 18-years-old to sell this kind of stuff, which Hector is not. Hector says he didn't use a fake ID at the shop, but was helped anyway.

Hector's family says that they have now alerted the police about the hacking.
