SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. (FOX13) -

You can't say we didn't warn you. We've been telling you for weeks now, that this year's flu season could be a big one and to get your flu shot as soon as possible.

But we aren't going to just tell you about the problem, and not give you a solution.

The Shelby County Health Department is offering flu shots at its main office or at any of their clinics around the county. In fact, to set a good example Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell stopped by the health department Tuesday and got his shot in the arm.

"I obviously believe in it," Mayor Luttrell said. "I try to get one every year and I think the advancement of science this indeed is preventive. We need to encourage more of our citizens to get out there and do this you know the flu
Can be fatal.

"I know every year we have concerns about fatalities and this one easy way to try to prevent it."

If you are young, have a chronic condition such as diabetes, or elderly, you should be the first in line for a flu shot. The peak season doesn't start until January, but remember, it can take two weeks or longer for the flu shot to actually start to protect you.
