The holidays are right around the corner and if you're looking to land some seasonal work, October is the best time to apply. is just one of several employers looking for seasonal help.

The company plans to hire 70,000 workers around the us this season and many of those jobs are at their fulfillment center in Arizona.

Hundreds of thousands of jobs up for grabs across the country.

Macy's is hiring 83,000 workers,  Target is hiring 70,000 and Walmart and Kohl's are looking for more than 50,000 seasonal employees.

With all those jobs out there, how do you land one?

"If you're trying to nab that seasonal job, there's a few things you can do to get that leg up. One is I always start by going where you know. So those stores in your local area that you frequent, go to often or shop at are gonna be familiar to you and so there's a certain comfort level and familiarity you have with their brand and products that might give you that little edge when you go in and ask," said Mike "Dr. Woody" Woodward, executive coach and author of "The You Plan."

Don't be afraid to ask friends and family for help, they're a great source in the job hunt.

"The job market has and always will be about who you know, but those friends and family of yours, if they don't know you're looking, they cant help you. So, you got to let them know, find out who they know and also let them know what you're looking for and what you're open to because they may be able to guide you in that right direction," said Woodward.

Once you find an opening, head online.

A lot of the major retailers have pages on their websites for seasonal hiring.

You can even land a job through social media.

"The reality is that online searching for jobs is really about mobile job searching because all of it's going to your mobile device. So Tweet My Jobs, for example, has a great app. There are apps on Facebook and certainly on LinkedIn to help you figure out who locally is hiring and you can even apply through your online device, which could be a great advantage because you can do it without even going to the store," said Woodward. will tweet about job openings based on your interests.

You can also use it to send out your resume.

The site also connects with your Facebook page and lets you know if any of your friends have connections at a company that's hiring.

Online shopping is expected to increase anywhere from 13 to 15 percent, which is why Amazon is hiring so many seasonal workers.

Once you land that seasonal job, it could turn into a full time position.

Last year, Target offered more than a third of their seasonal workers a full time job and Toys R Us kept 15 percent of their holiday hires.
