New Canada goose hunting season to begin Saturday

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - State officials say waterfowl hunters will have the chance to hunt Canadian geese in October, starting Saturday.

The season runs from Oct. 12 through Oct. 27. Officials say Georgia has a resident Canada goose population of about 250,000 scattered across the entire state.

Beginning this fall, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has allowed Georgia to add additional days to the goose hunting season. That has allowed the Wildlife Resources Division to add dates in October, between the September goose hunting season and the regular waterfowl season that begins in late November.

Hunters must have a Georgia hunting license, a Georgia waterfowl license, a federal duck stamp and a HIP permit. More information on license can be found at http://georgiawildlife.com/licenses-permits-passes .
