Police arrest 3 after woman robbed of iPad

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Atlanta police are warning people to be wary when walking with any electronic device out in the open.

Authorities say a young woman was robbed outside of an L.A. Fitness gym in Buckhead on Wednesday after thieves spotted her iPad.

The woman told police that the man asked her if she was alright. When she said yes, he grabbed her iPad and ran.

Police say the woman gave them a good description. As the Chrysler minivan left Buckhead, an Atlanta police supervisor saw it.

Police followed the van onto Interstate 85, off onto North Avenue and then onto the Georgia Tech campus, where the van crashed after hitting a curb.

The suspects bailed out of the van. With the help of Tech students and other witnesses, police managed to catch three of the suspects.

Bashan Collins and Sakina Collins are charged with robbery and theft by receiving stolen property.

Courtney Hughes, 19, of College Park, is charged with theft by receiving stolen property.

Police say the theft of electronic devices snatched from the hands of pedestrians is a growing problem.

Prosecutors considered him their key witness, a longtime Gwinnett developer given immunity to spill what he knew about corruption inside county government. David Jenkins testified before a Gwinnett grand jury in 2010. He also met multiple times with prosecutors. Those interviews were videotaped. Four years later, prosecutors agreed to a no contest plea bargain with former commissioner Kevin Kenerly on one count of bribery. He will serve 10 years on probation and pay a $10,000 fine.
