A statewide manhunt continues across Mississippi for Michael Wright of Batesville, who is accused in a murder-kidnapping incident in Hinds County. Police say he is considered armed and dangerous.

According to WLBT in Jackson, Miss., Wright is accused of kidnapping his current girlfriend, Sharice Latham, after they had a fight. The Hinds County Coroner says a 55-year-old body was discovered by a home health nurse who was checking on Latham's grandmother.  The body was identified as Jerry Brent, Latham's uncle.

Investigators say they found the woman allegedly kidnapped by Wright unharmed in Utica, some 35 miles southwest of Jackson.

Wright's mother, Sarah Wright, broke down and fought back tears while talking to FOX13 News at her Panola County home, after learning of the manhunt. She knew Latham's family.

"I feel real sorry for the family because I wouldn't want anything like this to happen, and I know if it were my family I would feel sorry for whoever did this to my family," Sarah Wright said. "I have that feeling for them too."

Sarah's son's name is etched in the steps of the doorway to her house. She said the last time he visited her, he said he was worried over the murder charge of Cara White Cannon in Panola County.

"He was real upset about his other crimes because he told me, he said, 'Momma I cry every day, I pray, I just don't know where to turn to," Sarah said. "And I said, 'You got to pray, and give in to the Lord, that he'll forgive you.' I said I know he'll forgive me, but I pray and I pray and I just don't know."

Thursday afternoon Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby said there are holes in information given by Latham. Sheriff Darby said investigators believe Wright may now be headed upstate to Panola County and possibly to Batesville, where he has family. Investigators have not found Wright in Hinds County.

Law enforcement said Wright may be headed to Panola County because he is out of money and food and is desperate.

Michael Wright's mother said she has been praying all day and night for the families involved and prays that her son would stop running.

"I just wish he would just give up, come to the light, because he is a Christian guy and always faithful, and talking about the Lord," she said. "This is just not like him."

The Panola County Sheriff's Office is urging residents to stay vigilant and if you spot Michael Wright you are urged to call 9-1-1 or the PCSO at 662-563-6230.
