MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

U.S. Congressman Steve Cohen said Monday  his office would like to help Memphis city administration with finding $15 million in funds to save the Sears Crosstown revitalization project.

MORE: Sears Crosstown project facing major snag

Cohen said he'll direct his staff to look into finding funds Upon his return to Washington, D.C.

"I'm going to ask my staff to see if they can't find anything," he said. "I saw where Councilman (Lee) Harris said he thought Robert Lipscomb could do some magic. Well, Robert does a good job of getting grants, but we help him and we're going to try to ourselves. I mean, that's an important project for Memphis."

Developers of the estimated $175 million renovation of the 80-year-old Sears building into a multi-purpose facility assert the city must find $15 million in grants to have full funding in place by the end of the year.

However, while most members are in favor of the project on Friday Councilman Harold Collins and others expressed concern the Sears Crosstown renovation might take precedent over other infrastructure projects promised to other parts of the city.

If fully funded the Sears Crosstown project is scheduled to be completed by 2016.
