'Blessing of the Animals' held at Piedmont Park

ATLANTA -

Grace United Methodist Church held its annual "Blessing of the Animals" service Sunday at Piedmont Park.

Animal owners gathered with their animal companions to be blessed and to remember St. Francis' love for all creatures.

"We do it around the beginning of October to honor St. Francis, whose Feast Day is on Oct. 4, and he's the patron saint of animals and the environment, and so we celebrate today to recognize that God's creation connects us all and so we celebrate in God's creation and we celebrate all of God's creatures, not just people, but animals, too," said Kate Floyd, the pastor of Grace United Methodist Church.

Special guests included Atlanta Police Department K-9 and mounted patrol animals.
