The clean up starts now at B.B. Kings after a kitchen fire started inside the famous Beale St. club over night. It all started just after 12:30 a.m. at the corner of 2nd and Beale.
Seth Krasnove, B.B. Kings employee says, "We were closed at the time, we had one manager in there, he saw it and tried to get it with a fire extinguisher but couldn't do it."
The fire starting in the kitchen after hours when Memphis Fire was called to battle the blaze.
"We made a quick aggressive attack on the structure," according to Wayne Cooke.
The fire spread through vent and duct work to the 3rd floor restaurant, and to the B.B. King store next door.
The kitchen was completely destroyed and those who work here say it was just re-done 6 months ago.
Seth Kransgrove says, "There's a lot of water damage and smoke damage."
The fire was finally contained. Memphis Fire crediting the buildings suppression system for the fire not spreading to other businesses.
Cooke said, "It contained the fire to the area of origin in one of the facilities there."
I'm told it appears right now none of the priceless musical artifacts were damaged but that it will be days before the popular restaurant opens again.
"We just have to repair rebuild and reopen," says Kransgrove.
So now the cleanup starts. The biggest hurdle is getting all of the water out, and re-building.
B.B. Kings should be back open in about a week and a half.
