PHILADELPHIA -

One person is dead, and five people are hurt after a shooting in Southwest Philadelphia.

It happened around 7 p.m. Sunday at 54th Street and Florence Avenue in the city's Kingsessing neighborhood.

Police say a group of men were standing on the corner outside of Los Papi Deli, a grocery store, when two gunmen opened fire.

Forty to 50 shots were fired.

One of the six men shot was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 23-years-old. Police said he was known to them, but they were not elaborating.

The others were rushed to the hospital.

One of the victims is in critical condition at the University of Pennsylvania. The rest are stable.

"I knew the guy. I knew everybody the guy shot. It's crazy," one person said at the scene.

"Some were shot in the leg, some were shot in the arm, some were shot in the calf," Philadelphia Police Capt. George Fuchs said. "One guy is shot in the chest. They range in the age from 18 to 23, young males."

Fuchs added, "We don't know who the intended target was, we don't have any witnesses, and we don't know what the motive was. As of now, we have a large crime scene, multiple, multiple rounds, shell casings on the ground. It looks like it was different caliber weapons. We also have projectiles and fragments all over the street – literally, all over the street."

Police say this was an ambush-style shooting. Police want to talk to the victims to find out what they know, and they're hoping to identify the gunmen as soon as possible.

FOX 29's Dawn Timmeney had more details Monday morning in the video report above.
