JONESBORO, Ga. -

Police say a Clayton County fourth grader who was reported missing on Thursday after school was found safe early Friday morning.  Authorities say an officer spotted 9-year-old Traivon Anderson outside in his apartment complex after 6 am.

Traivon was seen getting on a school bus Thursday afternoon at Harper Elementary School, but he never arrived home. Search crews looked for him late into the night on Thursday, and the search was set to resume Friday morning.  Fortunately, he was found safe and complained of nothing except insect bites.

Officials held a news conference on the situation late Friday morning.  They said they were grateful that Traivon was found safe and they got the outcome they were hoping for.  They said the boy had apparently been reprimanded at school on Thursday and was afraid of going home and his parents knowing what happened, so he hid in the bushes outside his apartment.  Authorities say the boy told them he saw officers searching for him.

Traivon was checked out by doctors on Friday, and officials said he was back in school Friday morning.
