Family seeks answers in death of ex-detective's wife

TEMPLE, Ga. -

A grieving family has questions about a local woman's death.

Tianna Richie was found dead of a gunshot at her Temple home in July. The 29-year-old's death was ruled a suicide, but her family believes the wife and mother was murdered.

"I went to the hospital and they said that she had committed suicide and I couldn't believe that was the case because that wasn't who Tianna was," said H.J. Cohran, a family member.

According to Tianna's loved ones, Richie's husband, former Cobb County police detective Tracey Richie, told police she took her own life by shooting herself with his service revolver.

But Richie's ex-husband, Gabriel Haynes, the father of their three young children, says the kids miss her terribly.

"You can look across the room and them be by themselves and just see the sadness in their eyes, just see the hurt in their eyes and you can see they have lost a huge part of them," Gabriel Haynes.

Other family members also believe Richie was the victim of foul play. They say she had no history of depression or mental illness and loved life.

"Tianna was a loving person, happy all the time. She liked to joke a lot. She brought joy to everyone she was around," said Cohran.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now looking into the death.

"We want to know the facts. I mean we truly want to know what really happened," said Herb Haynes, Tianna's ex-father-in-law.

The family says they last spoke with a GBI investigator about six weeks ago and hope ultimately they'll find closure with the outcome of the case.
