After weeks of threats, finger-pointing and political maneuvering the government shut down at the stroke of midnight eastern early Tuesday.
At the center of the dispute is Obamacare, the President's signature health care law. A big portion of it kicked in Tuesday.
While uninsured Americans are now able to shop for a health care program via health care exchanges, Republicans are desperately trying to defund it, proclaiming dire consequences for the economy. Democrats are firing right back, blaming Republicans for the government shutdown, which now sees about 800,000 federal employees without a paycheck.
But, all of the partisan bickering does little to explain how this shutdown will affect Mid-Southerners in their daily lives.
