WYNNE, Ark. (FOX13) -

Long overdue.

Carolina Panthers running back DeAngleo Williams had the week off from his NFL gig, so Friday evening the former Memphis Tigers great was back in his hometown of Wynne, Ark., as the guest of honor at DeAngelo Williams Night.

His alma mater retired his No. 34 jersey. As a senior, Williams was the Natural State's top prospect after rushing for over 2,200 yards with and eye-popping 34 touchdowns.

He went on to a record-setting career at the University of Memphis, and is the leading rusher in the history of the Panthers. In just four weeks into the young NFL season, he is as productive as ever in his eighth year in the league.
