Boudoir Photos A Growing Trend For Women

Posted: Updated:

More and more wives are doing naughty things in the bedroom without their husbands.

Becky Dissinger is a happily married mother of two, but tonight she's shedding the role of mom, and transforming herself into a pin-up. Not only that, but she's letting the camera document the transformation. While her husband will no doubt be thrilled, he's not the only person she's doing it for.

"I think I may be doing it more for myself. I know he loves me, and he thinks I'm beautiful, but I need to be there, too. And so this for me to be ok with who I am, and be comfortable with who I am," Dissinger said.

She is talking about a boudoir photography session.

Brooke Ismach and Laura Eaton are co-owners and photographers for Inspired Boudoir.

Ismach said, "Boudoir means bedroom, so it's sort of risque, fun pictures, women in lingerie feeling good about herself."

It's not necessarily anything new. Think back to the iconic shots of women like Rita Hayworth and Veronica Lake.

"We really like to create an experience. Everything from talking to the girls on the phone, to helping them plan their outfits, when they arrive we tend to have a bottle of wine, we have music playing, they lay out their outfits and it's an experience where they really feel good about themselves, in every stage," Ismach said.

"Boudoir caters to people with a lot of different lifestyles, there's the classic pin-up that everyone pictures, but it may also be the dominant-submissive, and a lot of times they just want to exaggerate what their normal is and what their version of sexy is, "Eaton said.

Anything from a head shot all the way down to artistic nudes.

"I think one of the reasons its gotten so popular is that pop-culture has made it very commonplace, it's acceptable to see pictures of people in their underwear and so I think people are just more comfortable with the idea in general," Eaton said.

That is certainly part of it, but inviting a stranger in to such a private part of your life can be intimidating...

"I just got to the point where I want to be comfortable with who I am, I'm in my 30's I've had 2 kids and I want to be ok with who I am," Dissinger said.

She wanted to reclaim herself and empower herself. The photos aren't about being as bare as possible.

Dissenger said, "I get to have the hair and the make-up and put on sexy outfits and still feel comfortable with me, but I'm not just the mom with the pony tail and the yoga pants driving car pool. I get to be me, which is really cool."

Brooke and Laura said every session starts a little bit awkwardly, but that's normal, Most of the work is done with the camera down.

Becky plans to give the photos to her husband as a gift; he's been out of town on business for six weeks,

She feels deep down, the real gift of these photos is one she is giving to herself.
