Boys suspended for firing airsoft guns

Posted: Updated:
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -

Two seventh-grade students in Virginia Beach could be expelled for shooting an airsoft gun, WAVY.com reports.

Khalid Caraballo, 13, and his friend, Aidan, were suspended after they shot two other friends with the guns while waiting for the school bus, the station reports.

Aidan's father, Tim Clark, told the WAVY.com that the children were suspended for possession, handling and use of a firearm.

Solangel Caraballo, Khalid's mother, is protesting the suspension. She said that the boys were firing the gun on private property. WAVY.com reports that the bus stop is 70 yards from Caraballo's front yard. The boys said that they never made it to the bus stop and that the shots were fired from the yard.

Airsoft guns, which use plastic pellets, are designed to be non-lethal.

A hearing was set on Monday to determine if the boys would be expelled.
