Local ambulance service saving furry, four-legged lives

ATLANTA -

In a medical emergency, the quickest way to get help to someone involves a ride in an ambulance. But, what if that loved one is your pet? FOX 5's Andi Larner learned that there's a similar service available to your four-legged friends and it's just a phone call away.

Eight-year-old Kona is living the life at a foster home in Brookhaven. But, a few weeks ago, his life hung in the balance. During a scheduled visit to the veterinarian for X-rays, Kona's foster mom, Beth martin, got a phone call.

Beth said, "By the time I got to the office, I got a frantic call from the veterinary surgeon saying Kona was in shock , he had no blood pressure."

She said, "I was just in a panic."

It turned out that Kona suffered a reaction to his arthritis medication, which created a hole in his intestine. He made it surgery, but needed more advanced care at the University of Georgia Small Animal Teaching Hospital – which is located about 65 miles away.

That's when Beth's vet suggest calling an ambulance to transport Kona. But, not just any ambulance. They called Atlanta Animal Ambulance – an ambulance service for pets..
