Rite-Aid Slaying Victim's Dad Speaks

Posted: Updated:

A man is under arrest tonight. He's accused of gunning down a manager at a Rite-Aid pharmacy, and now police are on the hunt for a second suspect.

FOX 29's Dave Kinchen spoke Saturday with that victim's father.

The man accused of murdering Chester Rite-Aid manager Jason McClay in cold blood Thursday night is 24-year-old David Wiggins.

Wiggins was picked up by authorities Saturday morning in Philadelphia and charged with murder in the first-, second- and third-degrees.

Jason's father, Bruce McClay says there's some relief in knowing his son's accused killer is behind bars.

Chester police worked with Philadelphia officers to surround the suspect in a Southwest Philadelphia house, catching him even as he tried to make a break through a back door.

The Delaware County district attorney says he may even seek the death penalty.

"If they happen to invoke the death sentence, that's fine with me," Bruce McClay said. "It will be good use of the taxpayers' dime."

The family says Jason was minutes away from closing up the store to watch the Eagles-Chiefs game with his family.

That's when investigators say Wiggins and an unidentified woman walk in during an attempted robbery.

There's an argument and gunfire, with Jason losing his life after being shot in the head.

Even more heartbreaking? Jason was filling in for another co-worker that night.

"You never think it's going to be you. You never think it's going to be your family that's involved in something like this."

The devastated family says the world lost a good man, a Navy veteran and a loving uncle holding his little niece in this picture.

While he plans a funeral, Bruce McClay says he's hoping to hear the second suspect is caught soon, saying he's "waiting for her to be apprehended and locked up, too.

A $20,000 reward was posted for information that leads to arrests in the case, and authorities tell me that still stands as they look for the woman involved in this case.

If you have any information, you are asked to call Chester Police, or the Delaware County DA's office.
