AVONDALE, Ariz. -

Today marks the beginning of Estrella Mountain Community College's 10th Annual Hispanic Heritage month, continuing its tradition of their cultural celebration.

Students gathered for some food, music, and fun celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at the school, for the 10th year in a row.

Valley musicians performed a few songs.

Festivities included a salsa tasting contest -- where students got a chance to judge some of the best salsa in the valley.

"This is like one of our favorite events that we do. We're very culturally diverse, we are a Hispanic serving institution, so we have about 28 percent Hispanic students," said Karen Harbin.

Avondale mayor Maria Lopez-Rogers kicked off the event with a welcome and reading of the proclamation.
