MILLINGTON, Tenn. (FOX13) -

UPDATE: A search for a 37-year-old fisherman who was swept into the Mississippi River on Sunday near Shelby Forest State Park in Millington has been called off.

Shelby County deputies say search and rescue crews have exhausted their efforts in looking for Bone Leang. A multi task force searched Tuesday the Mississippi River from the Tipton County line to Tunica, Miss., and checked all riverbanks and small canals that touch the river.

Search and rescue crews will not resume the search for Leang unless they receive information that requires them to follow up.

A search continues again today for 37-year-old Bone Leang, who fell into the Mississippi River Sunday while fishing in Millington near Shelby Forest State Park. Shelby County Sheriff's deputies said Leang fell in to the water from a boat ramp. He did not know how to swim and he may have drowned after a strong undertow may have pulled him under.

Crews weren't able to find Leang on Sunday. They resumed searching near Mud Island downtown and areas upstream on Monday.

Sheriff spokesman Chip Washington said Leang is Cambodian but it's not immediately clear if he lives in the area.

Rescue crews from several agencies searched several hours for a missing fisherman in the Mississippi River.

The Shelby County Fire Department, Millington Fire Department, Memphis Air Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard were on hand Sunday afternoon after a fisherman slipped and fell into the river near Shelby Forest.

According to Brent Perkins, the PIO for the Shelby County Fire Department, the man waded into the water to get a better cast and was swept away.

The man was only wearing his swim trunks and carrying his fishing pole.  Two others were almost swept away with him.

Perkins tells FOX13 News the river is filled with underwater hazards and logs that could have swept him off his feet.

FOX13 News has also learned a language barrier made it difficult for 9-1-1 operators to understand the calls coming in from the man's family.

Crews called off the search Sunday night because it was too dark.  The Shelby County Sheriff's Office will resume the search Monday morning.
