ATLANTA (AP) - One football tradition will soon disappear in Georgia.

A new law taking effect Jan. 1 will ban lobbyists from handing out free football tickets to state lawmakers.

For years, Georgia's colleges and universities have spent thousands of dollars buying tickets for lawmakers and paying for their parking and food. It's a big perk in the football-obsessed South where it's nearly impossible, for example, for someone unwilling to pay a markup or without season tickets to see the University of Georgia Bulldogs play in the Southeastern Conference.

Another draw is Georgia Tech in the Atlanta Coast Conference.

Spending reports from August show Georgia's college and universities spent nearly $1,400 to host state leaders at games.
