CTA, Pace riders show frustration with new Ventra payment system

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A number of CTA commuters are having a hard time figuring out the Ventra card payment system, which went into effect on Monday with a seemingly smooth transition. Riders showed signs of frustration on Thursday.

Ventra card is defined as a contact list card. It replaces the old blue and yellow Chicago cards that old system has become second nature to Chicago commuters.

The new Ventra card uses a bar code system - all-in-one payment method - whether you're taking a bus, train or catching a ride on Pace.

The old plastic cards and paper passes are going to stick around for a couple of months while riders familiarize themselves with Ventra.

One of the aspects of the new Ventra card is it allows tracking of what routes will being used most or least, which then makes it easier for CTA and Pace management to figure out where and when to shift resources.
